buying antiques & vintage - edition II

There’s something so satisfying about uncovering items that carry a story, pieces that bring soul, character, and a sense of history into a space. Whether it’s a timeworn rug, a perfectly patinated table, or a piece of art that speaks of another life, these finds form the heart of many of the interiors I create.

Back in October last year, I shared my first list of favourite vintage and antique dealers, and the response was overwhelmingly enthusiastic. I loved hearing about your favourite sources and the joy you find in discovering special pieces for your homes. So, by popular demand, I’ve put together a second curation, but this time expanded to include ten dealers. These are dealers and makers whose work I admire and who consistently offer a blend of beautiful, thoughtful, and inspiring finds.

1.     TALLBOY INTERIORS

Known for its refined mix of antiques and its bespoke collection of furniture, lighting, and accessories, Tallboy Interiors effortlessly blends timeless craftsmanship with contemporary relevance. Each piece is selected with a considered eye and an appreciation for heritage. For example, I adore this hugely decorative 19th-century Fairground carousel horse by renowned makers Limonaire Freres.

2. THAKEHAM Antiques

Set in the heart of the Sussex countryside, Thakeham Antiques is a treasure trove of high-quality English furniture. Their spacious showroom is a joy to explore, offering classic pieces that suit everything from traditional homes to more modern settings in need of an anchor point. This beautiful table caught my eye over Easter; the detailing on the legs is divine.

3. LA TUILE À LOUP

Though not strictly vintage, this beautifully curated tableware brand deserved a spot on the list. Handmade in France, La Tuile à loup’s collection has an artistry that makes every meal feel special. I couldn’t resist sharing it. This blue-on-cream splatterware design also comes in a blue-on-green colourway. If you aren't based in France, don't worry... they offer international shopping.

4. FOLIE CHAMBRE

With an eclectic and ever-evolving collection, Folie Chambre mixes antique and vintage finds with their own in-house line, Made by Folie. I’m especially drawn to their lighting, elegant, sculptural, and often delightfully unexpected. This rare brass and metal 1960s tri-colour Italian floor lamp caught my eye; it would be perfect in a little boy's room I'm currently designing.

5. Vintage by marielle

A Finnish vintage dealer I originally discovered on Etsy, Vintage by Marielle's selections are small but beautifully considered. Her vintage rugs are a particular standout, each one tells a story through texture, tone, and wear. It's worth looking at her Etsy store, which has a wider selection than featured on Instagram.

6. MYRIAD ANTIQUES

If you love unique pieces that make a statement, Myriad Antiques should be on your radar. From antique dollhouses to dramatic headboards, their West London showroom is full of surprises, and the kind of pieces that instantly become talking points. I love the indigo and ivory ikat shade on the textured powder blue pottery base featured here.

7. Willow and brooks

For decorative antiques with a romantic, lived-in feel, Willow & Brooks delivers time and again. Their collection is rich with character, each piece thoughtfully sourced and brimming with charm. This decorative garden plate was designed by the late abstract and figurative artist Patrick Heron CBE, commissioned by the National Art Collections Fund and produced by Wedgwood.

8. ETALAGE

Specialising in antique and vintage art, Etalage offers a carefully curated selection of fine art prints, oil paintings, and decorative pictures. If you're looking to build a gallery wall with soul, this is a great place to begin. This picture is a window into the ever-changing selection of interesting and unique pieces featured in their Cotswold showroom.

9. Collectable quilt company

Their name says it all. Collectable Quilt Company. The most exquisite collection of antique quilts I’ve come across, meticulously sourced, beautifully preserved, and full of history. Every quilt is a work of art in itself. Based in Northern Ireland, the shop specialises in antique quilts, Irish linen, lace and textiles.

10. MARK DAVIS ANTIQUES

A warm and welcoming family-run business based in Devon, Mark Davis Antiques offers a wide selection of furniture and decorative items with rustic charm. Their farmhouse tables are particularly lovely and perfect for everyday living. I have featured this stunning St Ives School of Painting Oil on Board, which I came across a couple of days ago. St Ives and its art scene hold a special place in my heart as it is where my husband and I went on our honeymoon.
